How it Went: My First Public Book Signing

Book Signing at Chapters South London
On October 22, 2023, I headed to 1037 Wellington Rd in London, Ontario. I had a box full of mementoes, a few additional copies of Roughing it in Africa, and was excited to have my first public book signing at the Chapters South London store. I am pleased to announce, it was a great success.
The Setup
A table full of copies of Roughing it in Africa sat waiting for me at the door. Nalini, the Customer Experience Leader who takes care of Local Authors, materialized moments later.
“Set everything up however you want,” she exclaimed. “You’ll be great!”
No further encouragement was needed; I went straight to work. I had brought a sarong, some wood and stone carvings, plus my new book marks (that also double as business cards). Items were placed here and there to attract visual interest, but there was one more item I slid in before I was ready to greet people — my Coming Soon poster for Riding the Waves.

Bring on the Fans
I was set to be there from 12 – 4 pm and am pleased to say I did not have a moment to sit. Several friends and family came to wish me well and see me at my first public book signing. It was so special to see so many people, the furthest coming from Chatham and Brantford! You all made my day.
Thank you to Chapters South London for hosting me and supporting local authors. And a huge thank you to the many people who came out to offer their support. It means so much to me that you are along on this journey to see me succeed in my writing career. I can’t wait to see you at the next events!
Now, to book some more!
